I do not need coaching, that is for business or professional people or athletes. I do not need coaching, which is such an American thing, I am sure the Real Housewives of wherever do it – what a waste of time.
I do not need a coach; I have no idea what they do. Are they going to give me lists of things I should do, hoe to be, exercise 10 times a week, what to eat – what a waste of money!

Theses perceptions of coaching and what we do are all things I have heard people say and a lot of this is down to not knowing what Coaching is about and how is it is influential to all aspects of peoples lives in so many areas. Supporting their clients to overcome challenges, make changes – you just need to know more about coaching.
Coaching has been around for thousands of years in some form. Socrates, Ancient Greece BCE. He used questions rather than giving direct answers. This is still used today “Socratic Method’s. In competitive sports and became a recognised profession in the early
Sports Coaching emerged in the late 1800s in competitive sports and became recognised as a profession in the early 20th Century.
1970s, business coaching began appearing in professional development
1990s, Life coaching rapidly grew and is still growing.
Coaching is used widely and across so many areas:
- Executive Leadership
- Career Development
- Health & Wellbeing
- Relationships
- Performance & Mindset
- Education
So now we know that coaching has been around for thousands of years & now as a recognised profession for the last 50 years and growing. Let us understand more about it
So, I specialise on Life and that is collaborating with a client one to one in aspects of their own lives. I collaborate with client to build relationships, overwhelm, careers any part of their own life that they need support with. I am going to point out areas where Coaching can support you and why we all need a little coaching.
We all live in a busy environment, we juggle jobs, children, pets, partners, activities……the list can go on. At some point we can become overwhelmed, burnt out and self-criticism and negativity starts to settle in and we beat ourselves up about the task we didn’t tick off the list, the fact we didn’t make it to the gym this week and before you know it you have spiralled into self-doubt and we question our capabilities and self-worth. This is where coaching can really support you.
We all have goals. Whether it is improving our health, changing careers, building confidence, or simply finding more balance in our lives, we often know what we want. The challenge is figuring out how to get there—and staying committed when life gets in the way.
This is where coaching can make a meaningful difference.
Coaching Is About Moving Forward
A coach is not there to tell you how to live your life or make decisions for you. Instead, a coach creates a supportive, structured space where you can explore your thoughts, identify what is holding you back, and from there together we develop a strategy that aligns with you and reflects your values and your goals.
Coaching is a future focused, we do not look back on the past. We look at where you are today and understanding this and where you want to be and together creating realistic steps to help you get there.
Why can I not just do this myself?
Many of us set ambitious goals in January, make promises to ourselves on Mondays, or tell ourselves that “next month will be different.” Yet weeks or months later, we find ourselves back where we started.
This is not usually because we lack motivation or ability. More often, it’s because we do not have:
- Accountability
- A clear plan
- Someone to challenge our thinking.
- Space to reflect without judgement.
A coach helps bridge those gaps and using the accountability to really make goals more realistic, tangible, and achievable.
Coaching Supports Your Wellbeing
Wellbeing is not just about self-care days or taking a break. It’s about creating a life that feels balanced, meaningful, and sustainable.
Collaborating with a coach can help you:
- Manage stress more effectively.
- Build confidence and self-belief.
- Develop healthier habits.
- Improve work-life balance.
- Increase resilience during challenging times.
- Gain clarity when facing important decisions.
Small, consistent changes often lead to the biggest long-term improvements.
Accountability Creates Progress
One of the greatest benefits of coaching is accountability.
It is easy to postpone goals when no one else knows about them. A coach helps you stay focused by celebrating your progress, helping you overcome setbacks, and encouraging you to keep moving forward—even when motivation dips.
Progress does not require perfection. It requires consistency.
Coaching is working together – not giving you the answers.
Coaches are not there to give you the answers, it’s about working together to identify the challenges and how to mauver around them to push forward. We used questions to understand where you are today and highlight areas where you have not been able to push forward. So, we ask questions, questions you have never asked yourself.
These conversations can help you:
- Challenge limiting beliefs
- Recognise strengths you may overlook
- Clarify your priorities
- Build confidence in your own decision-making
The aim is not dependence on a coach—it’s developing the skills and mindset to coach yourself over time.
Investing in Yourself
We often invest in our homes, careers, holidays, or technology, but hesitate to invest in our own personal growth.
Choosing to collaborate with a coach is an investment in your future. The skills you develop—self-awareness, resilience, confidence, and effective goal setting—can have a lasting impact on many areas of your life.
We have all reached out for a book that is going to give us all the answers, bought a diary or journal, but these are pushed to the side once we don’t have to be accountable and we Move the dates for the goals to be achieved.
You Don’t Have to Have Everything Figured Out
You do not need to be at breaking point before asking for support. Coaching is just as valuable for someone who wants to grow as it is for someone navigating a difficult period.
Whether your goal is to improve your wellbeing, build confidence, achieve a personal ambition, or create positive habits that last, coaching provides the guidance, structure, and encouragement to help you move forward.
Final Thoughts
Real change does not happen overnight. It happens through intentional action, honest reflection, and consistent progress.
A coach will not walk the journey for you—but they can walk alongside you, helping you stay focused, overcome obstacles, and recognise how far you have come.
If you have been waiting for the “right time” to prioritise your goals and wellbeing, perhaps that time is now. The first step does not have to be perfect—it simply has to begin.
